Homefront Kettle Corn is the brainchild of David and Elizabeth Daugherty. We feature freshly popped kettlecorn as well kettle style caramel corn and "movie theatre" style popcorn

Who We Are:

We are David and Elizabeth Daugherty of Pendleton, Indiana. Originally from Bellingham, WA, we relocated to Pendleton, IN due to David's job as a software developer.

David works in Indiana for a software firm based in California. In his off time, he is a varsity football and lacrosse official. His hobbies are wood working, computers, gadgets, Portal 2 and giving his wife a (goodnatured) hard time. :) He likes watching pro football and college lacrosse and listens to pretty much anything except his wife. :)

Elizabeth is the Head Fred of Homefront Kettlecorn. She runs the operations, takes the phone calls, orders the supplies, and is told it's "her business" until David disagrees with something she does. :) Before embarking on her Kettlecorn Odyssey, she worked in the Development Department of The Oregon Symphony. In her off time (umm...yeah) Elizabeth gardens, writes, reads, plays Frontierville, likes old movies, Big Band and Classical music, would like to sew more and is constantly trying to restore their 113 year old Victorian Cape Cod home.

Both David and Elizabeth are foster parents with Ohio Valley Corgi Rescue. At any given time, they will be called upon to open their home to an abused, unwanted Corgi, love him/her, get him/her healthy, trained and ready for a forever home. They've fostered over 25 Corgis and readied them for new, loving, healthy homes and believe there's a special place in Hell for people who abuse animals.

Our Product

Our product is made of four things: corn, corn oil, salt and cane sugar. That's pretty much it.

Oil: We do not use any peanut oil in any of our products nor do we use vegetable, coconut, palm kernel or unhealthy hydrogenated oils. Strictly corn oil. We believe the corn oil favorably affects the taste of our product and to that end, we use Mazola Corn Oil.

Sugar: We use Domino Cane Sugar in our kettlecorn. Domino Cane sugar does not use genetically modified beet sugar. Just pure cane sugar.

Salt: Morton's Salt in the big blue box. It's been around since 1889, so that's good enough for us.

Corn: We use two varieties: Act II Butterfly style and Gold Medal Magic Mushroom (yes, it's really called Magic Mushroom...hey.. I don't pick the names).

Butterfly style is the style of popcorn that most Americans are familiar with. It's the kind you get in the stores, in your microwave popcorn and in the movie theatres. It pops up smaller and crunchier than Magic Mushroom.

Magic Mushroom pops up bigger, fluffier, meatier. It's the type of popcorn mostly associated with heavily coated caramel corn.

A word about our Caramel Corn. Caramel corn that most are familiar with is "rolled".. that is it is popped, cooled and then is rolled in a tumbler and heavily coated with caramel, allowed to cool and then bagged and sold.

Here at Homefront Kettlecorn, I do not have the equipment required to heavily roll or coat my caramel corn so I do it kettle style: I dump in the brown sugar the same way I do my cane sugar and it pops up and glazes. Some pieces are darker and some pieces are lighter. I also salt the caramel corn in the same way I do the kettle corn as the salt cuts the sweetness of caramel corn and enhances the flavor.
